Past Concerts
This spring, Bitterroot Baroque Orchestra presents two programs; The Consort Across Europe featuring 17th century part music from England, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands in February, and Music for Shakespeare's Theatre, comparing incidental music from Shakespeare's plays when they were first performed and during their first revival almost a century later in May.
All concerts are Admission by Donation

Celebrate Bacchus with Bitterroot Baroque's French opera program, including the North American premiere of Jean Claude Gillier's Les Plaisirs de L'amour et Baccus (1697). 17th century French opera is all about opulence and spectacle so be prepared to be transported to Louis XIV's Versailles by the God of Wine.

Bird Fancier's Delight

Baroque composers were just as inspired by birds as birders are today, listening to the songs of nightingales, cuckoos, ravens, swans, and chickens, incorporating them into their music. Inspired by a book of pieces for solo recorder titled Bird Fancyer’s Delight which promises the listener that they will get to ‘hear these little animals warble out their Celestial Harmony.’ This program features works by Biber, Rameau, Handel, Walsh, and Couperin paired with poetry from the 17th and 18th centuries.

Master of all forms and national styles, Georg Philipp Telemann was one of the savviest and most prolific composers of the Baroque. His cosmopolitan music was disseminated to his fans through his serialized self-published Der getreue Music-Meister, which ran for 25 issues and included pieces for nearly every common instrument of the time. With its solo sonatas, chamber works, and programmatic pieces (such as a suite depicting the recently published—and wildly popular—Gulliver’s Travels), this innovative collection truly offers something for everyone. Repast presents a kaleidoscopic array of works from this collection.

The Bitterroot Baroque orchestra lead by Repast Baroque shares music of Telemann and Farina in a program that transports the listener to the idyllic countrysides including charming dance suites and a rustic concerto. Farina’s Capriccio stravagante a quattro brings us the of Arcadian sounds of hens and roosters, shepherd’s instruments including the shawm and hurdy-gurdy, a military processional, and the meows and barks of cats and dogs. Finally, travel to the Spainish countryside and wage war with windmills with Telemann’s Don Quixote Overture Suite.
